Art Tour

Discover the historic collection of the G & A Mamidakis Foundation. With a compelling history dating back to the 1980s, today comprising more than 70 artworks by Greek and international artists, the collection is spread over two properties; the Sculpture Garden of Minos Beach Art Hotel and the corridors of Minos Palace Resort. Large-scale installations on permanent display, by emerging and renowned Greek and international artists, reveal the experimentations of contemporary artists with immersive, site-specific works, transforming landscapes and spaces and inviting viewers to engage with art in new and meaningful ways. Comprising 113 vessels arranged in a spiral formation, the installation draws inspiration from the enigmatic Phaistos Disc.

Designed by the artist and crafted by the potter community of Thrapsano—a Cretan village with a centuries-old ceramic tradition—the vessels transcend their utilitarian origins, becoming bearers of a broader cultural and spiritual narrative: the tireless, continuous journey of humanity and its relationship with space and time. Serving as both a morphological and conceptual analogue, the work activates ideas of cyclical time, primordial memory, and collective experience.

The mysterious Phaistos Disc serves as both inspiration and destination: an archetypal symbol of communication, a code which has not been deciphered, one that prompts more questions than it answers. In dialogue with this symbol, Stratou presents her vessels as self-luminous entities, not only in their literal radiance, but also as carriers of memory, cultural energy, and interior life.
